Gene Mancini from the Franklin Institute posted more details about this afternoon's events:
Gene here. Just got home. I am going to keep this short and to the point. Rick Schubert released the hawk back into the nest at 5:30 PM. This was done at the behest of the State Game Commission. In their expert opinion an uninjured bird needs to be fledged by its parents. There were other factors but I am not comfortable relating them due to my lack of expertise.
After Rick released the fledgling, he went to the street below to observe her behavior for the next hour. I went to the roof to draw Mom back to the nesting area. She arrived within 30 seconds.
7:45 PM approx.
